Let’s get something straight. I’ve always sworn I would never buy anything that appears in an infomercial. I have even given my friends explicit permission to conduct an intervention, if I, Gaynor Alder, was to ever call Guthy Renker in the early hours of the morning.

So you won’t be surprised to learn that I was horrified, when my friend rang me to confess she bought Zumba from Guthy Renker, and not only that, she loves it.

Now, don’t be alarmed, I’m not going to start promoting Proactiv or Sheer Cover. But come on, go on, admit it, haven’t you been just the teeniest bit curious about Wen Haircare?

So, after my insatiable curiosity got the better of me, I contacted Guthy Renker to review Wen. Now, for those of you who haven’t been subjected to the onslaught of late night infomercials, the Wen system doesn’t use shampoo, rather a “Cleansing Conditioner”. Chaz Dean, creator of Wen, doesn’t believe we should use shampoo on our hair because it strips your hair of natural oils.

I must confess, one part of me thinks this could be the next best thing since GHD released their hair straightener, but there is another part of me that’s dubious. I’m not sold on not using shampoo, and I’m worried my hair could become oily using only the Cleansing Conditioner. However, being the complete victim that I am, I have been seduced by the promises of more manageable, softer and smoother hair.

Other products I am currently reviewing are: Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner, YSL False Lash Effect Mascara, Fake Bake self tanning range, and the BabyLiss PRO hair straightener … could the GHD’s holy grail status be in jeopardy?

OPI is releasing a new Hong Kong inspired range in February 2010 – an eclectic mix of oranges, gold, caramel, dark green, white silver, sweet pinks, purples, blue and traditional red.

The official line up: Hot & Spicy, Suzi Says Feng Shui, Bling Dynasty, Meet Me on the Star Ferry, A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find, Dim Sum Plum, Red My Fortune Cookie, Chop-sticking to My Story, Jade is the New Black, Pearls of Wisdom, Lucky Lucky Lavender and Panda-monium Pink.

OPI has also opened a new hand spa in David Jones, Bourke St, Melbourne, and I’ll be visiting them for a manicure when I next swan into the city.

On the competition front, one lucky reader will win a bottle of Agent Provocateur perfume in January. You’ll love it just for the bottle alone – definitely as sexy as their lingerie.
