INTERIORS: “EITHER THAT WALLPAPER GOES OR I DO”
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated by interior design books and magazines. I am also a sucker for an interior design show, especially a good before and after on Oprah with Nate Berkus. Hell, I even watch old re-runs of Auction Squad late at night (WARNING: lock your doors if you see Craig coming anywhere near your home with his home made art and the rest of the team with their trusty MDF, wadding and a staple gun to make you a house full of “new furniture”).
I believe that when you walk into a person’s home, it should reflect their individuality and character. A home’s decor shouldn’t be dictated by the latest design trend, but rather by what moves and inspires the person that lives in it. Every home has its own ambience, but ultimately it should be a place that you can be happy, relax and renew. A place to be you.
Where I live means a lot to me. I love pottering around; getting waves of inspiration and rearranging and finding new spots for things; and decluttering and reorganising spaces. I love walking into a room and asking myself how I want to feel in that space, and then using the mediums of colour, lighting and texture to create that mood. I love balance and harmony, and creating focal points that make my heart sing every time I walk into the room. I love using the science of colour to lead people’s eye around a room. You might notice, that I do that right here on this blog.
So, I am starting a new series showcasing interiors to make you swoon, beautiful decor, homewares stores, storage solutions and decluttering and design tips. Your first project is to walk around your house, and declutter all the things that you don’t LOVE. Look at what you have in each room, and ask yourself, “do I love it?” How does it make me feel? If you don’t love it, ditch it (and if you are hesitating, let let me tell you, you don’t love it). There is no place for mediocrity in your life. Not in your relationships, not your in career and definitely not in your home. Once you remove the things that are not bringing you joy, the things that you treasure can come forth and shine.
The next interiors installment will be solely dedicated to decluttering disorganised spaces, without getting overwhelmed or suffering from severe separation anxiety.
Watch this space.

I love decorating and rearranging the house (much to Tim’s amusement and annoyance at times).
I love reading about it and have a subscription to Better Homes and Gardens and buy Notebook, Real Living, House and Garden and Country Style magazines etc.
I will be looking forward to reading your posts.
